This Week in Reddit

Our first ReddVisible newsletter!

Welcome to the first edition of ReddVisible!

My goal for this publication is to specifically cover the burgeoning world of Reddit.

Why? Well, Reddit has grown 7x in the last 9 months.

It’s now the #3 website in the world.

1 in 7 people visit Reddit at least once per month.

And it sits at the intersection of TRAFFIC and COMMUNITY. Two key pillars that content creators and brand marketers desperately need in the age of Google disruption and AI homogenization.

But Reddit is UNLIKE other platforms. Retro and novel. Massive and decentralized.

This deserves it’s own coverage.

This Week in Reddit

Here are some of the top stories about Reddit this week:

  • The Rise of Reddit: Not a new story this week, but new to me! This is a great break down of the history thru to today, including some great demographic nuggets and actionable engagement steps for brands and marketers.

  • Discussions & Forums Prominence: Savvy SEOs may have picked up that there’s multiple ways to surface in Google search via Reddit. Discussions & Forums Appear to be on the uptick.

  • The Viral Power of Reddit: Tyler O’Shea shares his stats from sharing a relevant link in a well-matched subreddit. 125,000 views in 24 hours.

  • Reddit Throttling Crawlers: In an effort to clamp down on third party crawlers. This could impact everything from marketing tools (Ahrefs, Semrush) to AI scrapers or “social listening” platforms. Perhaps Reddit is similarly looking to extract deals like they have with Google.

Where are all the Reddit Tools?

Speaking of which, there’s a HUGE gap in the market for usable, platform-specific tools around Reddit. For the third largest website in the world, there’s an opportunity here to build tools.

For a historical doppleganger, look no further than Jungle Scout’s mirrored rise with Amazon’s rise to power over the last decade. It started as a simple chrome extension.

Here’s an example of an indie builder taking advantage of this:

Another one I’ve come across recently in the wild is KWatch.io.

Many Brands are Reddit Ignorant

After launching our ReddVisible agency, I’m finding that many brands need a deep dive with a practical demo of how their brand or products are being surfaced in Reddit and via Google search.

There’s usually a lightbulb “holy shit” moment when it clicks.

BUT, there’s a real opportunity to be the Reddit evangelist for your brand or organization. There’s no better time to dive in.

Take My Reddit Crash Course

I’m “all in” on Reddit right now as the fastest way to acquire users and build community.

As such, my course is a fluid, evolving project. I’m adding new modules weekly!

That’s it for this week!
